Property, republican freedom and Citizenship Basic Income

Abstract

Inequality between rich and poor does not decrease. Faced with this reality, the author emphasizes that behind inequality there is a deeper problem of lack of freedom, because "there are many things that men, if they have a patched coat, do not dare to say." Thus -he notes- democratic republicanism from Jefferson to Robespierre, and from Rousseau to Marx, has continued to raise the need to re-politicize social life, and to include in the political agenda the serious problems of domination faced by disadvantaged. This purpose would have an effective way through according to the author by the creation of institutional mechanisms that endow physical and economic security to all citizens, making real the formal freedoms, and enable individuals to deal effectively with situations of domination. One of such institutional mechanisms is the Basic Income proposal developed by the author in this article.
