Abstract
The rates of food production and consumption in the world are becoming unsustainable. United States is ahead among the countries which largely exceed their capacity in regards to this. The main cause is the incorporation of fossil fuels in the production of food since 1950, both as kinetic energy as well as in pesticides and other products used in its production. According to the author, we are literally eating hydrocarbon speedily and without having any alternative to replace them. Only the reestablishment of an equilibrium among sustainable productive capacity and food consumption could prevent the crisis which can be forseen in the horizon.
