Abstract

This lecture, delivered at the University of Puerto Rico, posits a strong link between college experience and the exercise of democracy. It states that  the twelfth century was marked by the rise of theological debates, and the recovery of Roman law, from which comes the establishment of universities in Europe, occupying the word deriving from universitatem, a voice that means everything. The author links this relationship between university and democracy, to the target concept emerged in the Renaissance and in modern times, by which we decide and produce our fate or destiny exercising our most enlightened freedom.
