Abstract

The author states he wants to defend society and its inhabitants from all kinds of ideologies, including science. He argues that although science has been at the forefront of the struggle against authoritarianism and superstition, this was the work of the science of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, but not of today. This is exemplified by the role science plays in today’s education. The scientific 'facts' are taught at a very early age in the same way religious 'facts' were taught only a century ago. There is no attempt to arouse the student's critical skills so he can see things in perspective. In universities the situation is even worse.
